Interesting Facts
Here are a few things to consider; commercial truck drivers travel almost 140 billion miles a year. That’s just on American roads! Truckers transport about 68 percent of all goods that get delivered, that can average out to 60,000 pounds of merchandise per American per year. Of course building/construction materials and agricultural products make the bulk of that.
In order to get all that to market the USA has over 4 million miles of navigable road zigzagging their way across all 50 states (this doesn’t include territories or other holdings). The main veins in this labyrinth of roadways are the 47,432 miles of Interstate Highways. What is even more surprising is that this represents almost 25 percent of all traveled routes! Now keep in mind there is actually an additional 175,514 miles of other major and key roads. This combined, makes up the National Highway System of the USA.
