But, trucks as we think of them today can be credited to Henry Ford and the ‘1925 Model T Roadster with Pickup Body’.
Though other designs were present this was the first one to be called a “pickup truck”.
Many companies would come and go but they all had their roots in a simple design. Ford for example used the Model A before upgrading.
Studebaker and Diamond-T were other pickup truck builders back in the day. But they were built not be the pleasure vehicle of today but to be work horses.
These were for the farms and the back roads, the grandfathers of the modern semi-trucks.
Of course with the World Wars came other innovative ideas for improving the pick-up. Also there was an increased need for utility trucks and other vehicles.
Still they were intended to be work horse but now for the general contractors. These were for those who would come to your home to do odd jobs and what not.
