Conclusion
I have tried to cover some points, or at least point you in the direction that might better assist you with purchasing your new or used sleeper or extended cabin truck. As I have said already, I know these are the only key points to consider. I also know you have your own ideas of what is important and what best fits your needs.
As it should be, however, as with any major purchase buying a sleeper or extended cabin truck can be a huge investment, not only in money but in time as well. Researching the various models and types available, looking into all the various accessories, and then test driving them, all takes time. I just want to help you avoid any disappointment with your new purchase.
So, as I said there are several important things to do and consider. I would like to stress the importance of getting it check over by a properly certified mechanic. Have them check everything, inspect it like their mother was going to ride in it, with your new born in the co-pilots seat, and with your best puppy as the navigator.
Just as using properly trained and certified mechanics is important, another key point is to make sure you only deal with reputable sleeper or extended cabin truck dealers.
You might be tempted to go with the friend of your sister’s husband’s cousin who knows a guy who has a friend who sells vehicles cheap. Don’t do it. You truly do get what you pay for. Where will this ‘friend’ be when it breaks down 3 days later? Will he/she be out in the middle of the snow covered fields waiting for the tow truck? No of course not, they’ll be at the bank withdrawing the money from your cleared check.
Sure you might be covered by your states Lemon Laws but why risk it? The last thing you’ll want to do when you buy a sleeper or extended cabin truck is deal with the legal hassle of fighting to get your truck fixed. So do yourself a huge favor and stick with actual dealers, ones with a good Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating.
Of course there are other considerations as well, things like fuel consumption, insurance, parking and related considerations. And if you’re going to shell out that much money on something as expensive as this, I am sure you will want the best anti-theft and anti-siphoning devices available. Other considerations might be to consider GPS tracking systems, and kill switches (these will cut the engine if driven by an unauthorized driver).
It is hard to imagine just what it must be like to have the best of both worlds. You have what is literally a mobile home, often nicer than many of the RV’s and motorhomes you see on the road. This, while at the same time having your lively hood hauled along wherever you go. If it weren’t for the often crazy regulations this could be the best of both worlds!
