Well, trucks older than 2000 year are not required to use ELDs because these trucks have already installed ECM.
On the other hand, the trucks that do not support ECM will be unable to obtain and estimate the required vehicle parameters. It is when the operators of these trucks must get electronic logging devices.
Additional Cost Per Truck Due To ELD Mandate Rule
Most trucking companies that haven’t installed electronic logging devices yet are worried about the additional costs per truck.
Well speaking of numbers, it was estimated by the FMCSA that in average the price to purchase and install an ELD would be $584 per truck. In addition, the ongoing monthly service fee, in general, would be $20 per truck.
Have in mind that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration FMCSA was sensitive to the issue of costs when proposing and issuing the ELD Mandate rule.
FMCSA Registry and Compliance
In general for an electronic logging device to be in FMCSA’s registry and compliance, it must conform to the technical specifications, be self-certified as compliant by the provider as well it shall be registered with the FMCSA.
