Unlike most this is a rock-n-roll tune and reached number 9 on the pop charts of the day. This catchy number is one of the earlier instrumental tunes to be adopted by the trucking crowd.
13. Trucking Songs – “How Fast Them Trucks Can Go”
One of Claude Gray’s numerous contributions to the trucking songs list is ‘How Fast them Trucks Go’ released in 1979. It was released the usual way, not as part of an album but as a single.
It might not be as popular to many as some of the others I have listed. But it was popular enough to be remade, by several other artists over the years since it came out.
14. Trucking Songs – “Thank God for the Radio”
‘Thank God for the Radio’ was originally performed by the ‘The Kendalls’ in 1981. It was written by Max Barnes and Robert Jones for the album ‘Movin Train’.
This was their third and sadly last number one hit, going to the top spot for only one week. However, it stayed on the country charts for an impressive twelve weeks. Alan Jackson did an excellent cover version in 1994 on his album ‘Who I Am’.
