Soon after “On the Road Again” became Nelson’s 9th Country & Western number 1 hit and one of Nelson’s most recognizable songs.

Later on this song reached number 20 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’, and it was 7th on the ‘Adult Contemporary chart’.

“On the Road Again” is known to be his biggest pop hit and won him a Grammy Award for Best Country Song a year later.

 

11. Trucking Songs – “My Big Truck Drivin’ Man”

To be honest ‘My Big Truck Drivin’ Man isn’t as popular as many of the others on this list but it is an equally powerful song. I had a hard time finding much about it, though the lyrics are available.

However, it was performed by Kitty Wells in 1968 and is from the album ‘Kitty Wells Showcase’. Unlike most of the others it isn’t about the truck driver, but about the waitress who works a truck stop and is in love with a truck driver.

‘Forty Miles of Bad Road’ is one of the older songs on the list. It was written and performed by Duane Eddy back in 1959 and first released on the album ‘$1,000,000 Worth of Twang’.
