One piece of advice I would offer to all rookie truck drivers is to ask questions. There are so many other drivers, about 3.5 million to be exact. So pick the brains of these experienced truck drivers, join some truck groups such as:
- Real Women in Trucking
- America’s Independent Truckers Association
- The National Association of Small Trucking Companies
- Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association
This is not an endorsement but rather an example of the many associations out there. As a new truck driver you can find a lot of information not only by joining and speaking, but also by listening (well reading comment and blogs).
There are numerous opportunities for rookie truck drivers to find a good trucking company and to grow.
This isn’t for everyone, long days away from home, working in all weather. It does take a special type of person to do this. But once it gets in your blood, you’ll have it no other way.
