In order to take the hazardous materials test and get the hazmat endorsement you must meet eligibility criteria which are:
- As mentioned, already have a CDL license (An or B);
- Provide legal proof of US citizenship or legal status;
- Be of a legal age to operate a hazmat vehicle in your stage (or to cross state lines);
- Complete and pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check;
- Have a clean criminal background;
- Pay all appropriate fees.
There, of course, might be a few other basics, but these are pretty standard. Keep in mind some of the processes might vary depending on your state of the record. If you are already an experienced truck driver, you are familiar with the standard driving record and safety rating. But there are a few added things TSA will require of you such as:
