5. Step Five: DOT Medical Card
The step number five on your way of becoming a truck driver is getting a DOT Medical Card. DOT Medical, or more commonly known as DOT Physical is under the authority of the Department of Transportation Medical Examinations.
Therefore, if you want to become truck driver, and to operate with a vehicle that weights minimum 10.000 pounds, then it is a must for you to do a DOT Physical examination. You can see the DOT Physical as some sort of “Medical Fitness For Duty”.

The aim of this examination is to let the person who wants to become truck driver, whether he is capable or not being on the road. Each person that wants to become truck driver shall fulfill the standards that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration FMCSA has issued.
Moreover, by performing this examination the FMCSA will determine (has the final vote) if the driver is physically and mentally prepared to become a truck driver.
6. Step Six: Pass The Licensing Exam
Passing the licensing exam is the next step that you will need to take on your way of becoming a truck driver. When you complete the truck driving school you will have to take the CDL exam, which varies from state to state.
The licensing exam includes a written test as well as a road skills test. So, since there is a written test you shall be prepared that your knowledge about safety regulations and rules will be tested.
