There is some companies that are more threatened and vulnerable:
- Fleet size of 3+ trucks
- Companies having class 8 Trucks are especially exposed to risk
- Companies carrying loads across entire country
- Companies using Fuel/Debit/Credit cards for fuel purchases
How To Protect From Fuel Theft?
Fortunately there is a lot of ways how to eliminate the possibility of being stolen and reduce the risk to a minimum. Trucking industry and trucks in general are getting more and more sophisticated so there is no place to do some hose or cable modifications or attachments and in case there is an attempt of that kind truck software will warn and turn on the service mode if that happens.
However there is still a lot of ways to steal fuel but the aftermarket protections system are good and some of the are amazing and provide 100% fuel theft and fuel card misuse protections. In order to be 100% sure I would suggest using some of the following:
- Locking fuel cap (siphoning prevention)
- Fuel tank level meters (siphoning prevention but requires fuel tank modification)
- Anti Siphoning Cap (siphoning prevention but not fuel card prevention)
- Smart Fuel Cap (prevents both misuse and siphoning)
Hopefully this will be helpful to you guys and will help you eliminate any fuel misuse you might have in your trucking company. I know for sure that some of the companies using anti fuel theft systems managed to loser their fuel bills up to $950 monthly per truck. I believe it is worth trying.
