The weave in and out, cut in front of you, slam on their brakes, drive too slow/fast, and have little respect for the large trucks. This is not because they don’t care (ok some don’t), but it is because they don’t understand.
Another thing the truck driver recruiters fail to mention is the unpaid labor. “What”, you ask? But yes, there are times when you don’t get paid; now this will of course depend on the carrier you work for and if you get a salary.
But if you’re like most, you are paid per load or per mile. What do I mean by unpaid?
- Running empty, not hauling any freight;
- Waiting to get loaded or unloaded at the dock;
- Cleaning of trailers and securing loads;
- Sitting in traffic, during road closures and such (time is money).
Of course there are more examples but these are the most obvious.
