  • The size and weight
  • The distance (national or international)
  • Does it need insurance?
  • When must it arrive?
  • Does the customer have a preference (some do)?

The standard choices are the US Postal Service, UPS. FedEx, DHL, and many localized couriers. If you can’t spare the personnel and the package is only going across town using a local courier service might be an option.

But, there is a very important factor to consider… cost. Why send out a hard copy when email is free? So determine the importance of this and determine who will pay for the shipping. You never want to risk losing a client over the price of a stamp. But if the overall long term cost outweighs the benefit then you need to consider what is best for your organization.
