Finally, check the other vehicle. Make sure they are okay. Once you have an idea and can see everyone is ok, or aid is being administered, you need to ensure the following things happen:
First and most important remain calm.
Whatever you do, don’t leave the scene. There can be some extremely severe legal consequences for doing so. These include possible fines and other legal actions against you.
Call or have someone call 911 immediately. Give them your name and the location of the accident. Tell them if anyone needs medical attention and if there are other potential hazards. Once the police arrive cooperate fully.
If the accident happens on a busy street or if you’re still in the road try to make it safe. Put on your emergency flashers and display any other emergency signals you might have. Remain either in your vehicle or safely off the road, out of the path of any vehicles.
