All the way till the 1950’s the company lived by doing business as a small package delivery. Later that year they signed a contract with United States Postal, which contract took the business in a totally new direction.
After they managed to get permits for conducting local cartage work, they’ve started delivering freight including interstate and intrastate move services.

Followed by that was the contract that they got in 1981 with a major telecommunications company. They were transporting telephone installation equipment from Utah to Montana.
Today Mergenthaler’s Special Contracts Division serves Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Montana.
In 1986 after they acquired general commodities authority, they’ve entered the freight business and started to service the 48 states.
Furthermore, they’ve opened their service center in Salt Lake City, UT and what was only 2-door facility back in the days today is a 40-door service center!
This company changed the name back in 2004 when from Mergenthaler Transfer & Storage become the MTS Freight.
Today MTS have marketing agreements with about forty LTL carriers and they serve more direct points in Montana than any other of the trucking companies in Montana.
