- Choose the right colors, you might have a certain taste in mind at the time you buy it or worse yet it might look great in the store. The problem is that as taste change it can be harder to change the furniture. You might be all into real tree camouflage, and yes it does go with most everything and hides stains well, but you might regret it a year or two down the road. Most decorating experts would recommend something neutral, then add accents to spice it up (they will be cheaper and easier to replace).
- Depending on the piece that you are getting you will need to inspect more than just the ‘outside’. Check the cushions, and the springs. Remove the cushions and see what the spring are like, coil springs are considered the best. If they are a good quality they should spring back right away. Replace the cushions and make sure you can’t feel the spring.

- Speaking of cushions, don’t forget about them. Check to see what kind of cover they have. Is it removable? Are they of good quality, are they memory foam? For most cushions check to make sure they are the same on both sides, that way you flip them over every so often (or hide the stains). The great thing about removable cushion covers is that they are usually machined washable.
- It doesn’t matter where you shop, whether it’s the priciest name brand store or the cheapest unclaimed freight furniture discount center. Prices tend to fluctuate throughout the year. There are end of season sales, holiday sales, and other sales. If you are a Veteran many places offer discounts for them. Also many places will even match, if not beat, competitor’s prices.
