It’s just like Gretchen Jackson, manager of recruitment at Con-way Truckload, told Business Insider: “This situation forced drivers to look for other work where they were able to be home more with their loved ones and be a part of the day-to-day life of a family. Drivers saw what they missing being out on the road for 2-3 weeks and many made the decision not to give that up.”
So, the company provide the drivers more time at homes with their families, will have leverage in hiring them.
III Global, Political and Legal Trends
Global changes
From U.S. perspective, economy and trucking industry might seems like nothing can damage it. However, it’s not all bright and shine in trucking world, especially if you look at the bigger picture.
Recessions in Europe and Japan combined with Russian vulnerability to low oil prices could affect the U.S. This isn’t paranoid speculation, but simply an unwanted scenario that shouldn’t be ignored.
Political issues
Funding for roads and bridges in a long-term needs to be solved. The sooner it happens the better will be for everyone. Current program is expiring, but with the money from general treasury, it wasn’t the best solution in the first place.
