The coil of a truck antenna is the area where the signal is received or transmitted so it is important to choose the right one for your truck and make sure that the coil is above the roof top of the truck to get clear signal and transmitting.

Here are three truck antennas with different position of the coil:
1. Base-Loaded Antennas
The coil in the base loaded antenna is located at the bottom. The magnet mounted truck antenna usually has a bottom coil. Why is that? Because the bottom coil gives more support on the stability of the magnet unlike the top antenna location of the coil.
The coil needs to be above the higher truck line to give good performance and because the lower location of the coil this antenna is one of the last efficient ones. It is used for lighter trucks.
2. Center-Loaded Antennas
The position of the coil is near the middle or above or higher than the bottom of the antenna. This antenna is used in professional trucking for the large trucks and trailers. It is more efficient than the base loaded truck antenna.
