Truck Driver Health: 50 Tips to Stay Sharp on the Road

32. Truck Driver Health – Maintain Your Relationships With Friends And Family

Keeping in touch with family and friends can really cut the stress levels and keep you healthier. After all we need to talk with someone, sometimes just to chat, while other times to vent. But it cuts the wall that loneliness can create, which leads to stress. And with cellphones, Internet, electronic gadgets and all the other advances, there really isn’t any excuse why you can’t chat at least a couple times a week.

33. Truck Driver Health – Weight Training Can Be Done Even On The Road

Work out a couple hours before your bedtime. Some say a routine should be cardio for 10-minutes (as a warm-up). Then follow this with a 15-to-20 minute workout. Depending on which physical fitness idea you subscribe to, do reps of 10, 12 or even 15. You don’t need a lot of weight, actually some might argue building endurance is better than strength (some say both are equally important).  Remember to warm up before and cool down after each workout.

Here is a video made by the truck driver Ricardo Gonzalez’s. On his You Tube channel he is sharing some of his weight lifting trainings while on the road.

34. Truck Driver Health – Get Into A good Sleep Routine

It can be hard to get into true set routine when driving for a living. But there are some good habits to get into. Some we covered already (don’t eat or drink caffeine right before bed), and some might be harder to follow than others. But instead of watching TV, try reading before bed, your body will get in that routine and you will be able to fall asleep easier.

Also, don’t surf the web right before bad time, don’t do anything that will truly stimulate you and get your mind going right before trying to sleep. If you can’t fall asleep for a while, then go do something else and then return and try again!
