Also, one of the first responsibilities for the hazardous materials carrier is to check the packaging of the hazardous materials, if these materials are properly packed and have the proper labeling.
Each hazard truck driver shall be careful and work in accordance with the hazardous materials requirements in the 49 CFR Part 397. By ensuring that the consignments are properly classified and described the truck driver will allow himself to perform a proper hazmat transportation, without any error.
So, if you are a hazmat truck driver who is looking for a job opportunity, then you shall know that in general what each trucking company will be looking for you is (but is not limited):
- Determining if the hazmat materials meet the definition of a hazardous material;
- Proper shipping name (as I listed before);
- Classification altogether with an identification number;
- Hazardous warning labels;
- Shipping papers;
- Marking;
- Incident reporting;
In most cases, the hazmat shippers do rely on the information that is provided by the shipper. It is strongly prohibited that truck drivers receive and perform a transportation process of hazmat materials that are not properly prepared and packed by the shipper.
