10.Consequences From Jake Braking
Used as a secondary braking system the Jake brake is working with compression of the engine, which causes a deep sound that can be heard from far away.
Thereupon, as I have explained previously in this article in USA there are very strict rules and regulations when it comes to Jake brake usage.
Still although the Jake brakes are widely used in almost every industry especially in the trucking industry, and represent one of the safest retarding systems that can be found on the market nowadays, they can cause engine damage because of the compression that the brake makes while operating.
We all know that the Jake brakes are restoring the capacity of service brakes, but at the same time by its work they can cause damage to the diesel engine. And how can that happen actually? In general this braking system is providing the needed pressure so that the drive axles can close properly but from time to time it turn out that is not practical. Yet the diesel engine of most trucks is not able to handle all the pressure that the wheels are using for locking while the Jake brake is in function .
We can see that the usage of Jake brake in most circumstances can be useful because of its retarding power but still it can result in serious engine damage.
