Can Having DUI (Driving Under The Influence) Prevent You On Getting A CDL?
The short answer to that is yes. You must remember that truck drivers are held to a much higher standard than anyone else. This is especially true when it comes to drinking and driving. Some would go so far as to say there is zero tolerance.
Well, federal law is pretty clear about this. They require a minimum of four hours from your last drink to when you drive. Furthermore, you can’t have a blood alcohol count (BAC) above .04%. If you have a BAC of .08% or higher you might be disqualified from getting your license, or renewing as the case may be.
The real kicker is that the DUI/DWI will follow you. That means that if you switch companies, switch states, whatever you do, the DUI/DWI will still be there! And that is what will prevent most companies from hiring you. And here is the worst; the DUI/DWI stays on your record forever!
