Well as I mentioned above there is a several steps before an item can be declared unclaimed freight. But once it has been declared as such and the shipper has decided to sell it they will pursue the best option for doing so.
Many of the larger companies will hold regular auctions to get rid of unclaimed freight. Who would think that so much cargo could be abandoned? Other companies will hold auctions or sell the unclaimed freight as the need arises.
The United States Customs Service holds auctions and/or sells things at various times through the year. Well, actually they don’t sponsor the sales; they use an outside contractor, CWS Asset Management and Sales. You can go online to learn about dates and locations, they also will allow you to physically look at their selling items and merchandise as appropriate and feasible.
